MTNL employees on hunger strike

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
February 9: A section of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) employees at the Powai telephone exchange went on a hunger strike this evening to demand action against miscreants who reportedly attacked their colleagues last week. The incident, said sources, took place at around 11 am on Saturday when a meeting of the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Karmchari Front was being organised at Powai. A group of miscreants reportedly landed at the venue and assaulted some members of the front who were setting up a stage.

A complaint was lodged at the Park Site police station. Although some miscreants were arrested, they were released on bail. Claiming that the MTNL administration had failed to take actionm against the miscreants, activists gheraoed A K Takkar, general manager (east 1) and then sat on a hunger strike.
