Mill cashier robbed of Rs 27 lakh
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
FEBRUARY 9: Three armed men allegedly intercepted a car carrying over Rs 34 lakh and decamped with Rs 27 lakh at Dadar today. Bhikubhai Wadumal, employed as a cashier with the Ruby Mills, withdrew money from the Oriental Bank of Commerce at Dadar at around 12.15 pm and was driving back to the mill in a Maruti Esteem along with two armed escorts. Of the cash, Rs 26.95 lakh, meant for paying the workers' salaries, was kept in one bag and Rs 7.05 lakh meant for paying excise duties in another. As the Esteem halted at the signal opposite Portuguese Church at Dadar, four unidentified men in a white Maruti Zen pulled alongside and shattered the Esteem's windscreen. Threatening the cashier with choppers and swords, they allegedly snatched the bag with the workers' salaries and escaped. Neither the cashier nor the escort seem to have offered any resistance.
