Dwarka youth arrested for raping South African woman

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
RAJKOT, Feb 9: The Jamnagar Police on Tuesday arrested a former volunteer with the Saagar Rakshak Dal for allegedly raping a South African tourist on a Dwarka beach on the afternoon of February 7. A complaint in the matter had been lodged with the Dwarka police by the 28-year-old complainant, a resident of Cape Town who is currently visiting the religious city.

According to the Dwarka police, the woman, who was staying at a local guest house, had gone to an isolated beach located at a distance of two kilometers from Dwarka. Seeing her alone, the accused, one Tappubha Vagher, went up to her and tried to engage her in suggestive small talk. The girl refused to be drawn into a conversation with him, following which the accused assaulted her and forced her to have unnatural sex with him, the police said.

The police disclosed that the accused had been absconding ever since the afternoon of February 7. His residence, in Tobar village, located about six kilometers away from the town, had yielded no results, they said.

However, this morning, the police managed to arrest the accused. The 30-year-old Vagher, a farmer by profession, has been charged with raping a woman, forcing her to have unnatural sex with him and assaulting her. He is to be presented in court tomorrow.
