VADODARA, Feb 9: There is no end to the woes of Manjalpur residents. Before they get respite from the problem of overflowing drainage line in Sona Tekri, another problem has cropped up on Tuesday.A leaking water pipeline has virtually flooded the locality. Former deputy mayor and Congress councillor who brought the issue to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation's (VMC) notice told Express Newsline that the Manjalpur pond is overflowing.
According to him, the pipeline passing from the pond has started leaking from Tuesday.
When contacted, Executive Engineer K B Jaiswal said the problem was brought to the notice of the water works department and the work would be taken up on Wednesday. According to him, there is a leakage in the 18-inch pipeline.
Meanwhile, Congress leader in the VMC Kanchanbhai Parmar said the drainage manhole near Sona Tekri still continues to overflow. He says that children cannot play in the pond as sewage has accumulated in it.
He further says that residents of Navapura, Vadwalo Maholla and other nearby areas were affected due to the overflow. Parmar alleges that the VMC has applied cosmetic solutions. He further alleges that two new pumps installed in the GIDC Sewage Pumping Station are not functioning to the fullest capacity.
Parmar threatened that if these problems are solved the residents of the area will go on fast.
