SURAT, Feb 9: A 35-year-old man was seriously injured after he was assaulted by his elder brother with a sickle in their house, at New Colony at Tarsada village in Mandvi taluka, late on Monday night, the police said. The victim was shifted to the New Civil Hospital, during the early hours of Tuesday, where his condition was reported to be critical.According to the Neeruben, the wife of the victim, Vinod Becharbhai Rathod and his brother Chunilal entered into an argument following which Chunilal grabbed a sickle and thrust it into Vinod's abdomen. The intestines and other internal organs rolled out the victim's body as a result of the impact, the police said, adding that they rushed to the spot and arrested the accused who made no attempts to escape.
Mandvi PSI I K Desai, who is investigating the case told Express Newsline that the victim was immediately shifted to the Samuhik Arogya Kendra at Mandvi and later to the New Civil Hospital after his condition deteriorated. The accused had confessed to the crime and a case of attempt to murder was registered against him under section 307 of the IPC, Desai added.
Providing details of the argument, Desai said that both the brothers lived in a house of New Colony in Tarsada. But as a part of a government welfare scheme, they constructed another house earlier this month. Vinod reportedly told Chunilal that since the new house was built, he should shift there. An argument followed as both brothers wanted to live in the bigger house they were presently residing. In a fit of rage, Chunilal then attacked his younger brother.
According to Desai, the victim had two children, Reshma, a two-and-a-half year daughter of his own and an eight-year-old son Nainesh, whom his eldest brother Hasmukh had fathered. After Hasmukh died about four years ago, his wife Neeruben married the victim, Desai stated, adding that the police are investigating if there could be some other reason behind the incident.
