WASHINGTON, FEB 10: President Bill Clinton's acquittal seemed almost certain as Senate resumed its final close-door deliberations in his month-long impeachment trial inching towards final votes. The Democrats were determined to keep Clinton in office by denying the 55 Republicans the 12 votes required to remove the President from office.
The Senate is expected to acquit Clinton but it was not clear whether a motion to censure him for his actions would be voted on afterward.
Clinton faces perjury and obstruction of Justice charges stemming from probe into his efforts to conceal an affair with Monica Lewinsky.
The Democrats apparently do not want to be seen by the public as overlooking the `shameful' acts of Clinton and while keeping him in office, are anxious to censure him.
The Republicans are divided on the Democratic move with some wanting to `punish' the Democrats by defeating their censure resolution while others arguing that something against Clinton is better than nothing and want to joinDemocrats.
