National meet on mental retardation

VADODARA, Feb 10: The 12th National Seminar on Mental Retardation will be held in the city from February 11 to 13. The event is being organised jointly by Prerna, a city-based special school for the differently abled, and the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH), Secunderabad.

The seminar will comprise lectures and deliberations by experts in the field of mental retardation, representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working with the mentally retarded and doctors, among others. The themes of the scientific sessions of the seminar will include networking of services for persons with mental retardation, maintaining standards in quality of services for such persons and inclusive education.

Rajnikant Patel, State Commissioner for Health, Medical Services and Medical Education, will inaugurate the three-day event while eminent economist and management consultant Shreekant Sambrani will deliver the keynote address.

Spiritual leader Swami Sachinanandji will also address the gathering.

The seminar will commence on Thursday from 10 am at the C C Mehta Auditorium, M S University campus, Pratapgunj. Parents and teachers interested in participating can contact the Seminar Co-ordinator at 11, Krishna Kunj Society, behind Shiv Mahal Palace, Jetalpur Raod or call on 358134.
