Two chief accused surrender in double murder case

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Feb 11: Mahesh Desai, sarpanch of Mota Varachha village, and his alleged mistress Usha Maliwad, the prime accused in the sensational twin murder case, surrendered before the city police on Thursday, six days after they allegedly masterminded the murders of Sajid Valodiya and Indira Parmar on the outskirts of the city.

Assistant Commissioner of Police B S Vasava escorted the two to the spots near Kim and Gothan, where Valodiya and Parmar were murdered respectively.

With the two arrests, the police have arrested all but one of the accused in the case. Six people have been held in this connection in the past three days; all are in remand till February 13.

Desai and Maliwad will be produced before a magistrate on Friday, where a police remand will be sought. ACP B S Vasava is heading investigations in the case and is assisted by the Rander police and the DCB.

Only one accused one Bhuriya, the driver who rode the Armada vehicle in which the accused carried Sajid and Indira to secluded spots before they were murdered is now yet to be arrested.

The double murder came to light after the dead body of Parmar was recovered from the Masma Mainor canal off Rander on the evening of February 5. A couple of days later, the dead body of Valodiya was recovered from near Kathor in the district.

The police told Express Newsline that after the murders, Maliwad escaped to Mount Abu, where her son studies in a hostel, while Desai fled to Mumbai. A love affair and envy are stated to be the reason behind the double murder. While Valodiya was involved with Parmar, he met Maliwad and was apparently attracted to her. Desai is said to have not taken the developments kindly and reportedly invited Parmar and Valodiya to their deaths.
