Japan-aided project inaugurated

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, Feb 11: The first externally-aided project for cleaning up Delhi's environment was inaugurated recently. A Japanese delegation of three experts will clean up the electroplating units and cupola furnaces of the city.

A token allocation of Rs 10 crore has already been released for the current financial year. While the administrative part of the project will be taken care of by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Corporation (NEDO), Japan, technical assistance will be provided by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.

The two projects that have been approved are for the 5,000 electroplating units in non confirming areas. According to officials at the DPCC, these need-based industries in small plots have mushroomed in recent years.
