Never say Navarra

Lucknow, Feb 11: Fourth seed Mose Navarra of Italy advanced to the men's singles semi-finals of the 50,000 US dollar ATP Tour tennis Challegner by beating Portugal's Joao Cunha-Silva in a tense three-setter here today.Navarra, ranked 200th in the world, came back after losing the first set in a tie-breaker, to beat Cunha-Silva 6-7 (2/7) 7-6 (7/1) 6-4 to set up a last four clash with Czech Ota Fukarek, who thrashed eighth seed Oren Motevassel of Israel 6-2 7-5.

In the other semifinal, Finn Tomas Kotela will take on another Israeli Noam Behr.

In the doubles section, top seeds Marcos Ondruska and Andrew Richardson of South Africa reached the last four, beating the British-South African combination of Barry Cowan and Wesley Whiteshouse 6-1 6-4.

Second-seeded Spanish duo of Juan Carrasoc and Jairo Velasco also entered the semifinals with a 6-4 3-6 7-6 (9-7) win over Emanuel Cuoto and Joao Cunha-Silva.

Results Men's singles (QF): Noam Behr (Israel) bt Andre Stoliarov 6-2 6-3, Tomas Kotela (Fin) bt AmirHadad (Israel) 6-1 6-1, Mose Navarra (Italy) bt Joao Cunha-Silva (Portugal) 6-7 (2/7) 7-6 (7/1) 6-4, Ota Fukarek (Czech) bt Oren Motevassel (Italy) 6-2 7-5; (Doubles semis): Marcos Ondruska & Andrew Richardson bt Barry Cowan & Wesley Whitehouse 6-1 6-4; (QF): Juan Carrasco & Jairo Velasco bt Emannuel Couto & Cunha-Silva 6-4 3-6 7-6 (9-7).
