Vandana Agarwal sole leader

Press Trust of India
New Delhi, Feb 11: Vandana Agarwal was the only player to return a par score of 72 to take lead on the opening day of the two-round Biloo Sethi Golf Challenge Trophy here today.

Shruti Khanna and Urvashi S Sodhi were tied three strokes behind the leader at three-over 75, while defending National champion Parnita Garewal, Nonita Lal Qureshi and Anjali Chopra were clubbed together at four-over 76.The score on the first day was expectedly far below the participants' potential as they were compelled to carry their own kit bags after the caddies called for a lightning strike. The participants, some of them foreigners, heaved a sigh of relief when they came to know the strike had been called off following settlement for highers wages to caddies for the competition in progress.

Vandana did not play her first nine well as she had two bogies on the 3rd and the 8th. But her form back, she had three birdies on the 12th, 13th and the 18th. She however had a bogey on the 17th to get two under-34 in the back nine.Shruti was totally off colour in her first nine. She couldfire six over 42. She had a triple bogey on the 5th and a double bogey on the 7th. She also had a triple bogey on he first and 3rd and only one birdie on the 8th.

A totally transformed player in back nine, shruti firedthree-under 33 with three birdies on 13th, 14th and 18th.
