Wrongly-parked vehicles to be towed away

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Feb 12: Next month onwards, all vehicles parked unauthorisedly at public places, particularly in and around markets, will be towed away, Inspector General of Police R.P. Singh said here today. This, he added, would minimise the chaos caused by disorderly parking of vehicles.

In a chat with mediapersons here today, the IGP said that in order to check corruption in the police and traffic wings, in particular, surprise checks will be conducted in association with traffic wardens. There are around 20 traffic wardens in the city. He also sought public co-operation in this regard. Children will also be educated on traffic rules.

He declined to comment on the the Central Administrative Tribunal quashing the recruitment of 67 constables yesterday. The IGP, he said, has a limited role in the recruitment of constables. While the IGP constitutes the recruitment board, in this case, Singh said, he had only approved the board constituted by his predecessor, Y.S. Dadwal. Regarding the relaxation to wards of police officers, he said that was done on the recommendations of the Board chairman, the SSP.
