Defence systems could be worst affected by Y2K

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MYSORE, FEB 14: Indian industries and the Government departments have woken up late to the impending danger facing them in terms of Y2K, said Sheshagiri, Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and chief of the PM's Infotech Task Force. He said the country had failed to realise the impact of the Y2K problem and that `` defence systems, which are the most highly computerised, could be the most affected''.

He warned of the chances of missiles hitting within the country due to a failure in control system, if ``there is complacency in addressing the Y2K on a war-footing''. Sheshagiri said the NIC and the Prime Minister's IT task force have formulated a contingency plan. The plan would cover 52 per cent of the vital industries.
