VADODARA, Feb 14: The need to protect our environment, cautioning people not to be influenced by the media hype and the current political scenario in the country, featured in the folk media presentation of the students of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, M S University on Saturday. The programme, Jhalak, had a glimpse of all the known art forms of the country, including bhavia, puppetry, and tamasha. Students also used the medium of theatre to reflect the present political crisis in the country. The script and the characters were from Mahabharata and the students dressed traditionally as the characters of the epic. Students used the folk form of puppetry to show how one's psyche was affected by the media. However, this time around students did not use the traditional puppets, but puppets of Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. Citing the example of Bollywood blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, they conveyed how Kajol won over Shahrukh by being herself and not getting affected by media.
The folk form of tamasha was used to show the practise of burning effigies. The presentation was part of the students' practical assignment.
