Jagjit Singh mesmerises city audience
Noted gazal singer Jagjit Singh took Surat by a storm on Saturday night inside the Surat Municipal Corporation's Indoor Stadium. He sang to a near packed stadium and won applause in equal measure. He sang most of his famous gazals; from `Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho' to `Hothon Se Chhu Lo' and from `Tumko Dekha To Ye Khayal Aaya' to `Tere Khushbu Me Base Khat', and rounded off the lively night with Punjabi songs on demand. The live projection on two giant screens and the 60,000 Watt sound system ensured that the appreciative audience had little to complain about during the night organised by Swaram.

Gandhians' vow
About 300 Gandhians, including Naranbhai Desai, Zinabhai Darji, Naranbhai Rathod, Kanjibhai Chaudhary, Prabodhbhai Joshi and Ganpatbhai Gamit, took a vow to wear Khadi throughout their life during the 50th Gandhi Mela which concluded at Vedchhi on Saturday. Various programmes were held during the two-day event, organised by Babubhai Shah.

Water scheme
As many as 30,844 residents of 10 villages around Budia village of Choryasi taluka will benefit from a block water development scheme, the work on which began at the village on Saturday. Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board will complete the work, estimated to cost around Rs 2.61 crore.

Adult education
Vadodara: The second batch of the part-time long-term course of the Centre for Continuing Adult Education of the Maharaja Sayajirao University will begin on Monday. Interested applicants should contact the director's office at the centre for further details between 11 am and 5.30 pm on working days.
