Police deployed in Gursagar area

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Feb 14: Tension prevails around the Gursagar gurdwara near the Sukhna Lake here, 48 hours after a clash between two groups, in which over 20 persons, including women and children, were injured.

A dozen-odd policemen are deployed round-the-clock in the area to ensure that there is no recurrence of untoward incident between the two groups. While the policemen claimed that the situation was back to normal, the jhuggi-dwellers say they apprehend another attack, as many of the alleged assailants are still free.

Said rickshaw-puller Raj Kanwar, who is also the colony pradhan: ``The problem is that we cannot rely on the police any longer, since the attack had taken place in their presence the last time.''

Meanwhile, the police have arrested Sukhwinder Singh for allegedly assaulting and injuring jhuggi number 85 resident Prabha Wati. The accused resides at the Sidhu Farm house situated near the Gursagar Sahib. A case has been registered under Sections 325 and 506 of the Indian Penal code.
