Arsenal `winner' to be replayed

LONDON: In an astonishing and historic move, Arsenal's FA Cup fifth round match against first division side Sheffield United on Saturday is to be replayed -- despite the holders winning 2-1.Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger acknowledged immediately after the Highbury game that the winning goal, scored by Dutch international Marc Overmars in the 76th minute, was `sport-wise not right'. Wenger offered United the opportunity to replay the match -- an offer which, following the swift agreement of the FA, was accepted yesterday. The tie will take place at Highbury on February 23.

Pele's son faces trial: Report

RIO DE JANEIRO: The son of Brazilian soccer legend Pele will face trial later this year for the accidental death of a motorcyclist during a drag race in 1992, according to local news service Agencia Estado.

Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, himself a former goalkeeper, was 21 when his racing partner hit a helmet-less motorcyclist on a stretch of Sao Paulo roadway.The soccer star's son would also face charges for bodily injury of his racing partner, Marcilio Jose Marinho de Melo, and his two passengers, who ran into a light post, the report further added.

Bebeto notches 500th goal

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil's former World Cup-winning striker Bebeto scored the 500th goal of his career here for Botafogo against Corinthians in the Rio-Sao Paulo tournament. Bebeto, who was a member of the victorious Brazil squad in 1994 and also played in the side that lost the 1998 final against France, scored after 31 minutes of the first half yesterday, levelling the match at 1-1.

Amie Jacquet to train Fifa All Stars

SYDNEY: French World Cup winning coach Amie Jacquet was today appointed to handle the Fifa All Stars against the Australian Socceroos at the official opening of Sydney's Olympic Stadium.

Jacquet, who coached France to win last year's World Cup final against Brazil, is expected to announce his first squad by the end of this month and the final squad inApril for the match on June 12.
