LIC spike N Rly in volleyball final
Life Insurance Corporation of India defeated Northern Railway with a convincing margin in the final of D K Mudgal memorial volleyball tournament at Shivaji College courts. LIC won 25-21, 25-18, 25-22.

Brilliant performances by Pramod Rana and Arun Sharma were the highlights of LIC victory.

Some of the prominent teams that took part in the tournament included Air Force, Western Air Command, CRPF, Prashant Club, Shivaji College and Dhaka Club. A Bhadoria of CRPF was adjudged the best player of the tournament.

Mahato excels
A fine spell of bowling by Dheeraj Mahato (4 for 24) and unbeaten 51 by Ravi Mathur helped F&B-I beat Accounts Department by eight wickets in the final of the Taj Palace inter-departmental tournament at DPS ground (RK Puram).

Brief Scores: F&B: 137 for 2 (Ravi Mathur 51 not out, Narender Bhandari 30 not out, Kuldeep Bharti 35) bt Accounts: 136 for 6 (Naveen Mathur 63, Sanjay 38, Dheeraj Mahato 4 for 24).

Challenger Trophy
The inaugural East Colts Independence Challenger Trophy will be held at DDA sports complex, opposite Nangloi Depot, from Tuesday. Top teams of the Capital, including D S Group, RBL Eleven, DDA, Punjab National Bank, Gemini Club, Paragon Young, Minda Group, Pelican, Noida Builders, Ekta, Ashirwad, Brighto, DSI Group, Alpines, Keshavpuram, West Delhi Cricket Academy, etc are expected to partcipate.

The inaugural match will be played between DSIDC XI and Keshavpuram Colts. The winners will receive Rs 11,000 and a trophy while runners-up will be richer by Rs 7100.

Parriera, Narang best
J Parriera of Barrow House and N Narang of Gidney House won the Victor Ludorum Cup in boys `A' and girls `A' categories in the 39th sports meet of Frank Anthony Public School.

Gidney House also won the inter-house relay trophy while Khanna House clinched Kharagpur Shield for athletics. Barrow House stood first in inter-house marching competition. Vice Admiral (retd) H Johnson was the chief guest.

Bhagwati chess
The Botwinnik Chess Academy will organise the fifth Bhagwati Gases Open Chess Tournament from February 19 to March 3 at Russian House of Science & Culture, 24, Feroze Shah Road.

The tournament will carry a total prize money worth Rs 15,000. Entries close with Secretary General of the Academy on February 18 by 7 pm.

Wrestling contest
The fourth Cavanders Hanuman memorial wrestling competition, organised by Hanuman Akhara, will be held at Ramlila ground, Rewari on February 28.

There will be a first prize of Rs 11,000; two second prizes of Rs 5,100 each. Other wrestlers will also get cash awards. Top wrestlers from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are expected to participate.

Annual sports week
Ved Vyasa DAV Public School celebrated its annual sports week from February 6 to 12. The week included various sports events followed by a yoga performance by the students and a race for the disabled children on the final day. Deputy Director of Education Satpal gave away the prizes.
