Multi-lingual letter writer Shyamlal Damani was recently bestowed the `Achievement Award' at a function held by the Punjabi Academy (Maharashtra), Jan Chetna Manch, and International Healers' Association recently.

Free health camp at Santacruz

A free treatment camp will be held on Sunday, February 21 at Laxminayaran Temple, Tagore Road, Santacruz (west) between 9.30 and and 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm. The camp will offer Su Jok treatment method which reportedly cures ailments such as body pains, spondylitis, asthma and cerebral palsy. Free polio camp at Malad

Dr Paresh Desai's Bombay Foundation for Polio and Disabled has arranged a free polio camp from Thursday, February 17 until March 3 at the Shraddha Orthopaedic hospital, Pushpa Park, Road no 2 at Malad (E). Phone 8884829. Free medicine and callipers will be provided to needy patients.

Poetryrecitation for blind women

The committee for the advancement of status of blind women is organising a free poetry recitation competition on February 27 at 2.30 pm at the Kamala Mehta Dadar School for the blind. Applications are invited from blind women to participate in the contest in either Hindi or Marathi. Groups will be classified according to age: 10 to 25 years and 25 years and above. Painting contest

The Bombay YMCA will conduct a zonal painting competition at YMCAs in Andheri, Mumbai Central, Ghatkopar and Navi Mumbai for school children from Std I to X. The topics will be given on the spot. Contact the student branch on 3855468/ 3824534 for further details.

New cardiac surgery technique

A live workshop on minimally invasive direct access coronary artery bypass is being organised at the Sir Hurkisondas Nurrotamdas hospital and research centre on March 3 where patients will beoperated upon by Dr V A Subramaniam, Director of Cardiac Surgery, Lennox Hill hospital, New York, USA.

Patients who wish to be operated by the doctor have to register their medical details, including case history and a note from their own doctor, on or before February 22. Contact Dr Rajendra Patil, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the HN hospital; phone 3855555.

Workshop for parents

Aavishkar Clinic has organised a workshop for parents which will focus on anxieties commonly experienced by parents with respect to children's behaviour, scholastic and extracurricular performance and personality development. The workshop will be conducted in two batches for parents of children in different age groups: On March 6, between 4 and 7 pm, for children between 5 and 11 years; and on March 7, for children between 12 and 20 years from 10 am to 1 pm.

NAB orchestra on Feb 21

The National Association for the Blind (NAB) will conduct an orchestra programme on February 21 at Fine Arts Society,Auditorium Complex, plot no 16/21, RC Marg, Chembur from 3 to 6 pm to raise funds for its rehabilitation programmes. The Golden Memories orchestra, which comprises blind artistes, has been featured on cable television and has also performed at social gatherings.
