MUMBAI, FEB 19: The decision to form a Marathi Mahakosh to sustain literary meets has come in for severe criticism from theatre personality Dr Hemu Adhikari, poet Satish Kalsekar and Mahanagar editor Nikhil Wagle, who were among those invited to make suggestions in this regard. In a joint press statement, the three have said: ``We expected that the meeting we were invited to would make suggestions regarding the corpus and that the meeting's suggestions would be placed before the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, which would decide on the matter. But the decision to form a corpus was taken by those who attended the meeting themselves.''
Listing their own reservations, the three have said they were opposed to the hurried formation of the corpus without taking into consideration the objections raised from many quarters. ``We object to several things. For example, the process of electing the Sammelan president, the festival-like nature of the meets, the refusal to accept Konkan MarathiSahitya Parishad as part of the Mahamandal and the scarce participation of Dalit, Muslim and Adivasi litterateurs in the Sammelans,'' the statement has said.
