PATIALA, Feb 19: The Punjab government has decided to introduce a Common Entrance Test (CET) for Master of Business Administration and Master of Computer Application for admission to various institutions and departments of universities in the state of Punjab. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of nominees of vice-chancellors of universities in the state, heads of technical and management institutions which was presided over by principal secretary to the Punjab Government, Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training.According to authoritative sources here today, it has also been decided that like MBA and MCA there would also be one Combined Entrance Test for all institutions conducting Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) programmes. This entrance test would be conducted by the same body which would conduct the entrance test for MBA and MCA programmes.
The meeting felt that the conduct of entrance examination and admission procedure should be simplified as much as possible. It was decided that the first Sunday of June every year may be fixed as the date for conduct of entrance examinations for MBA, MCA, B Pharmacy, BBA and BCA. The third Sunday should be fixed for declaration of result of entrance test for MBA and MCA and the fourth Sunday onwards, group discussions and interviews for MBA and MCA should be held. The result for BBA, BCA and B Pharmacy would be declared latest by the first Sunday of July.
For group discussions, Dr Gurdeep Singh, head of the Punjabi University, Department of Business Management, suggested that there should be five centres spread all over the state of Punjab. This would facilitate the candidates and also minimise the time period for group discussions and interviews. This suggestion was unanimously accepted at the meeting. The third Monday of July was fixed as the date when the session for MBA, MCA, BBA and BCA courses would commence. It has also been decided that the candidates may be asked to give their options for the institutions for the purpose of admission, so as to avoid counselling like in engineering courses. Modalities for this would be worked out by the body which would conduct the test.
