BJP Govt can fall any moment, says Cong

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, FEB 19: The Congress today said the BJP-led coalition could fall any moment due to growing instability and in such an eventuality it could form an alternative government with the support of like-minded parties.

``No one could say for sure whether this government would last in the coming session of Parliament... It is facing height of instability... And no one knows what is going to happen tomorrow,'' party spokesman Anil Shastri told reporters.

He said in such an eventuality, Congress could form an alternative government with the support of like-minded parties.

Replying to questions, he said in the present political circumstances, a mid-term poll could not be ruled out.

The Congress, he said, was against forcing an early election at the Centre or in the states and it would be sad if they were forced on the people.

In such a situation, the party has to remain prepared for any eventuality ``at all levels of the country''.

Turning to Bihar, Shastri said what was being witnessed on theBhandari issue was ``a drama of the absurd'' which is being enacted by a political party that is not able to govern the country.

Stating that the `battle' between Home Minister L K Advani and Bhandari was sad and unfortunate, he said the development was leading to injustice to the people of the state.

Shastri said the party had always fought communal forces but continued to be ambivalent on the issue of presidential proclamation on Bihar.

He said the party working committee would be meeting soon as also a meeting of the Congress parliamentary party would be held on February 23 which would discuss the Bihar issue.

Referring to Uttar Pradesh, he claimed the Lucknow rally to be addressed by party president Sonia Gandhi on February 21 would be a turning point in the fortunes of the party in the state.
