Recruitment of more sweepers demanded
The Sweeper's Union, in a memorandum to Mayor Kewal Krishan Adiwal, have demanded an increase in the strength of sweepers in the Department of Medical Officer, Health.

The Union has stated that the total strength of sweepers in the UT is only about 1,900, which caters to a population of about 9 lakh, thus leaving a shortfall of over 1,400 sweepers in the city.

Union president Udesh Kumar Puhal said in a press release that the demand for sweepers was based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Health committee report on mechanisation of transport and liquid community waste.

The Union has now demanded recruitment of more sweepers in the UT, to fill up the gap between the required and the existing staff of sweepers.
