GURGAON, February 23: The owners of a leading jewellery shop in the city, Sudhir Jain and his brother, Satish Jain, were shot at by unknown assailants near their sector 12 residence here this evening. The incident occurred at around 8.45 p.m.The Jain brothers sustained bullet injuries on their arms and are said to be out of danger.
According to the police, the duo had just closed their shop, Ms S S Jewellers and left for their home in a Maruti Zen (HR 26G 8614). The two were accompanied by Sudhir's daughter who was sitting on the rear seat.
As soon as they reached sector 12, two men on a motorcycle overtook them from the left side and opened fire. At least four shots were fired -- two pierced the windshield, one went through the left door upper channel and another went through the left window.
After firing at them, the assailants drove away. The Jain brothers were among those who had received extortion threats from callers claiming to be associates of Dawood Ibrahim.
This is the second incident of its kind in the area. On February 8, the managing director of the Pushpanjali Hospital, Dr Sushil Oberoi, narrowly escaped a similar bid on his life. The extortionists had been demanding Rs 5-10 lakh from both Dr Oberoi and the Jain brothers.
