`Political' murder solved, one held

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, February 23: The police claim to have worked out the murder of Ram Kumar Rana, 43, whose body was found on a highway near Gheora in north-west Delhi. The police say there is no political angle to the incident. One person has been arrested in this connection.

Ram Kumar had been acquitted in a murder case in 1993. But the police suspected that the victim's family, especially his brother, Mukesh, had not been convinced about Ram Kumar's innocence and wanted to take revenge.

When the police went to Mukesh's Bahadurgarh house, they found that he was missing. Yesterday, the police received a tip-off that Mukesh's friend Yogesh would be at New Delhi Railway Station, attempting to leave Delhi. The police managed to arrest Yogesh, who has reportedly confessed to his involvement in killing Ram Kumar. DCP (north-west) Satyendra Garg says Mukesh had got in touch with Yogesh and hatched a plan to kill Ram Kumar. He also roped in Manjeet, a resident of Rohtak (Haryana). On February 17, when Ram Kumar was on his way to collect rent from tenants, he was accosted by Mukesh, Yogesh and Manjeet. They allegedly stabbed him to death.
