CHANDIGARH, Feb 23: The 1999 SJOBA-Thunderbolt Sub-Himalayan Open Rally is being organised on March 21. The rally, a popular annual event organised by the St John's Old Boys Association (SJOBA), would be open for cars, jeeps, scooters and motorcycles.SJOBA president S.P.S. Ghai said the rally would cover a distance of 300 kms from Chandigarh to Chail and back, while its route would comprise of the tough hilly terrains of the Shivalik mountains.
He added that this time the rally would adopt a different route, where after being flagged off from Chandigarh it will pass through Barotiwala, Garhkhal and Dharampur to reach Chail for the lunch stop. The second leg, on its way back to Chandigarh, it would pass through Gaura, Johadjee and Mallah before terminating at Chandigarh. A total prize money of over Rs 1 lakh is at stake for the winners. Besides the first three prizes in each of the four categories there would be special prizes for women and couple teams.
The entry forms would be available from the rally office at SCO 123-24 (basement) in Sector 17 and entries would be open from March 4 to 18.
