Seminar Beat -- Delhi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Seminar to discuss how best to help widows
Problems of widows, who comprise nine per cent of the female population in India, will come up for discussion at a national seminar to be held in the Capital from February 26.

The seminar, organised by Guild of Service, an NGO, will highlight the problems and plight of widows in Vrindavan, Mathura and other religious places. The seminar will be inaugurated by Congress president Sonia Gandhi. ``There are at least 15,000 widows in Vrindavan and adjoining areas. Most of them, however, come from West Bengal,'' guild chairperson Mohini Giri told reporters here today.

How films reflect family values
A seminar featuring serious film-makers and critics is being held in the Capital later this week, in an initiative to combat what has been termed the invasion from the skies and an overdose of violence and sex in films. The seminar on `Family Values and Asian Cinema: Stories We tell our Children', will be held from February 26 to 28 and has been organised by the National Institute of Social Communications, Research and Training (NISCORT) and the Brussels-based International Catholic Association for Cinema (OCIC). The seminar will be attended by film-makers like Shyam Benegal, Laurice Guillen from the Phillipines, Judy Soebrotho from Indonesia.
