EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, FEB 25: Almost 44 hours after she was abducted by four youths, the body of Radha Mirekar (20) was found floating in the Mutharigth bank canal near Fatima Nagar on Monday evening. The corpse of a 30-year-old man was also recovered from the same spot.

The newly-wed woman's abduction and death remains shrouded in mystery as the man, who was also found dead near her body, could not be identified till late Monday evening. The identity of the four youths, who kidnapped Radha after stabbing her husband, Sanjay, are yet to be ascertained.

Inspector in-charge of Wanowrie police station Babajan Tamboli said, "Radha was apparently abducted by her acquaintances. Sanjay, who suffered injuries after he was attacked, has recorded a statement saying that the abductors accused Radha of betraying them when she pleaded for mercy."

A resident of Ramtekdi, Radha was returning home with her husband after visiting her relatives in Wardarwadi on Saturday night when she was abducted. Sanjay said the four unidentifiedyouths intercepted their autorickshaw near gate number 2 of Race Course, dragged him out and stabbed him, around 10.00pm. The autorickshaw driver who is yet to be identified fled from the spot leaving the couple in a hapless condition.

According to Sanjay, the assaulters whisked away Radha in the autorickshaw while he lay in a pool of blood. Later, he says, he staggered to the police and lodged and FIR. Sanjay, who was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital, was discharged on Monday.
