Two youths from Sansi clan of robbers held

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, February 25: It was a family affair for the Sansis, with 16 of them allegedly involved in nearly 60 cases of robbery, burglary and snatching. Two two members of the family were finally arrested by the north-west district police.

While patrolling in Model Town, Inspector Somender Pal Tyagi stopped a white Maruti (no: DL-3C-K-0377) with two youngsters. A search showed that they were carrying two knives and house-breaking implements. The youths were later identified as Joga Singh and Ravinder Paswan, both 23 years and residents of Dabri.

Say the police: ``They have been involved in so many cases of robbery, burglary and snatching, that they have lost count and it is difficult to fix the cases, place of occurrence and time.'' According to the police, so far, the youths have been involved in one robbery case, 23 burglaries and 11 chain-snatchings. The police say that Joga belongs to the Sansi family, and his brothers, Darshan, Brishan, Krishan and Uttam, are history-sheeters in Dabri. Their father Hardayal, mother, paternal aunt Chando Devi, her sons Sonu, Sanjay and Kanwar Singh, maternal aunt Kelo and maternal uncles Laxman Singh and Hakam are also involved in various cases in Dabri and Sultanpuri.

On June 11 last year, Joga and four others allegedly stole 15 kg of silver from J.D. Jewellers in Shalimar Bagh. They then proceeded to loot 15 other jewellery shops in Rohini, Rani Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Adarsh Nagar, Sultanpuri, Samaipur Badli, Hari Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Kirti Nagar and Rajouri Garden, allege the police.

The robbers reportedly travelled in a Tata 407, came in gangs of six to seven people. And their modus operandi -- they would break into shops and carry away the safes. In 15 cases of robbery, they stole jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh.

Apart from looting jewellery shops, the gang also took a fancy to Titan watches. Four showrooms were burgled in Tilak Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Rajouri Garden and Dabri. The watches worth Rs 15 lakh that were stolen, were allegedly disposed of in Gwalior. When not using the Tata tempo, Joga, his brother-in-law Rajesh alias Biru and cousin Sonu, would travel around on motorbikes and scooters, snatching chains from passersby. The police claim that they are involved in 12 cases of snatching.
