NEW DELHI, February 25: The police are checking various courier agencies to trace the man who drowned a 13-month-old child in a bucket of water in a Suhkdev Vihar flat yesterday. The assailant, posing as a courier agent, had also robbed the flat, located in Pocket B, after tying up the child's mother, Kalpana Holelkar. As Kalpana is still in shock, the police have sketchy details. They are preparing a portrait based on her preliminary statement and that of the security guards. Kalpana says the man, who was of medium build and believed to be in his thirties, was wearing a black coat. The police, meanwhile, have ruled out the involvement of the man who had come to the colony in a Punjab-registered Maruti car around the same time that Kalpana was attacked. The man, after reading today's news reports about his car and registration number, went to the police and explained his position. He reportedly said he was visiting an acquaintance in the same colony.
Investigations have revealed that at least five persons from different courier agencies came to Pocket-B around the time Kalpana was attacked. Their names are listed in the register maintained by the security guards at the main gate. None of the agents, however, mentioned the Holelkars' address as their destination. When this report was filed, the police had verified the identity of four of the five agents.
``The manner in which this robbery was planned shows that the robber-cum-killer had a good idea about the occupants. We have found that the maid-servant's husband is also employed in a courier agency. We will produce him and samples of receipts from some courier agencies before Kalpana,'' says a senior police official.
