GMCH students call off strike

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Feb 26: Students of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, today called off the strike after a settlement was reached between students and the authorities.

The four-day strike of the students, who were demanding hostel accommodation for students putting up in PEC and the arrest of those accused in beating up students of GMCH, on the PEC campus, ended after Director, GMCH, V. K. Kak made alternate arrangements for the accommodation of students.

The 17 students, who are presently putting up at the Aravali Hostel of Punjab Engineering College, have been offered accommodation in the staff flats in Sector 41 and 43 lying vacant.

Earlier this morning, the students closed the gates of Government Medical College blocking the entry to the college premises. Later, in a meeting with Kak and additional director D. D. Gautam, the students agreed to join the classes from tomorrow.
