NEW DELHI, Mar 1: The pay scales of agricultural scientists have been revised on the patterns of University Grants Commission, benefitting more than 30,000 scientists and teachers attached to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the State and Central agricultural universities.An ICAR release said here on Monday that the revised pay package, to be effective from January, 1996, the UGC advancement scheme and incentives for Ph D or M Phil degrees had also been extended to the ICAR scientists, besides higher start for some of the research management positions.The revision follows the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations for the Central government employees.
The revised scale for the scientists would be Rs 8,000-13,000 instead of the earlier Rs 2,200-4,000 at junior level and Rs 10,000-15,200 instead of Rs 3,000-5,000 at the senior level.
The senior scientists and selection grade would be placed in the grade of Rs 12,000-18,300 with higher salary of Rs 14,940 to those having five yearsservices as on January 1, 1996.The revised grade of Rs 16,400-22,400 has been granted to the principal scientists and equivalent positions, who were earlier drawing Rs 4,500-7,300.However, for the research management positions, including the directors of ICAR institutes and assistant director general of ICAR, higher initial start of Rs 17,300 has been granted in the revised pay scale of Rs 16,400-22,400, the release said.
