At around 4.45 am, Antya was spotted near the slums. When asked to surrender, he allegedly opened fire on the police, who fired back. Giri was taken to LTMG Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. The police recovered a country-made revolver, four live rounds and an empty cartridge from the spot. Antya was named in 13 serious offences, including murder and attempt to murder as well as cases of dacoity.
