Punjab govt `anti-education'

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, MARCH 1: Teachers from various college and universities of Punjab and Chandigarh held a rally to protest against what they dubbed as the ``anti-education, anti-teachers and anti-students'' attitude of the Punjab Government, at the Chandigarh Housing Board roundabout, Sector 17.

The call for the rally was given by the coordination committee of various teachers' bodies, including the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers' Association, teachers associations of Panjab University, Punjabi University and Guru Nanak Dev University, and the Retired Teachers' Forum.

The teachers criticised the Punjab government for not releasing UGC pay scales of 150 aided colleges of Punjab and not releasing grants to non-government aided colleges as per the old mechanism of 95 per cent deficit.

The committee has planned mass casual leave for March 12 and offering to court arrest and an Education bandh on March 24 besides boycotting the examinations.
