VADODARA, March 4: Four thieves, who were running away with a battery and Rs. 10,000 cash stolen from the room of a guard at the ONGC oil well no. 160 in Hajat village in Ankleshwar taluka of Bharuch district were fired upon by a guard last night. One of them sustained injuries.According to Assistant Sub Inspector R Divavala of the Ankleshwar(rural) police station, it was around 2.30 a.m. that four persons entered into one of the rooms and escaped with cash and battery. However, one of the guards was woken up by their movement and he gave them a chase. One of the accused, according to police, threatened to attack the guard with the `dharia' if he did not give up. However, the guard mustered courage and fired on him from his licenced 12 bore gun injuring him in his private parts. The injured person was overpowered while his three associates fled.
The injured has been identified as Jayantibhai Balubhai of Hajat village. He has been admitted to Civil Hospital in Bharuch for treatment. Police Inspector M L Parmar is interrogating him. A case under section 392 has been registered.
