Vikrant Sane in line for double

Mumbai, Mar 4: Vikrant Sane entered the semi-finals of both under-16 and under-14 boys' in the Woodehouse Gymkhana Junior Ranking tennis tournament today.

Sane deeated Siddharth Patil 6-3, 6-0 in the under-14 quarter-finals and Rushang Patel in the under-16, 6-0, 6-1.

Results

Boys' under-16: Imran Allana bt C Akshay 7-5, 6-4; Saurabh Kohli bt Krishne Tanna 6-1, 7-6 (7-2); Ankit Doshi bt Amit Karunakaran 5-3 conceded; Vikrant Sane bt Rushang Patel 6-0, 6-1.

Under-14: Vikrant Sane bt Siddharth Patil 6-3, 6-0; Rishi Behl bt Jay Mehta 6-3, 6-2; Saurabh Kohli bt Keshavan Narsimhan 6-2, 6-3; Krishne Tanna bt Aditya Medheker 6-1, 6-2.

Under-12: Keshavan Narasimhan bt Gaurav Agarwal 6-2 6-3, Hrishikesh Pataskar bt Manikala Janmani 6-2 6-3, Siddharth Shheda bt Rohan Gide 6-2 6-2, Krishank Shah bt Karan Jhaveri 6-1 6-1.

Companeros SC beat BPT 4-1 in a Gulf Oil Western India Football Association Division I match at the Cooperage today.

MPT, MTNL champs

Mumbai Port Trust B and MTNL won the Division II men's and women's titles of the Annual Inter-office table tennis tournament organised by Mumbai Shahar Zilla Table Tennis Association at the UniversitySports Pavilion.

The Division I was won by BSES Ltd and LIC in the two respective categories. The Division III and IV finals will be held on March 19.

Hindulkar XI best

Datta Hindulkar XI won the Rege-Lotlikar-Parulekar Trophy defeating Vasant Amladi XI at the Dadkar Maidan today.

Hindulkar started the day, with 99 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket. Overnight not out batsmen Nitin Ghadge and Milind Tamhane added 131 runs for second wicket before the former was dismissed (43: 5x4). Anil Kesarkar joined Tamhane to guide his team closer to the target. But Tamhane, who won the man-of-the-match award, missed a century by five runs. Thereafter Darshan Shivalkar and Kesarkar took the winners safely to the target of 248 runs.

Tamhane also claimed seven wickets yesterday to restrict Amladi for 248.

Brief scores: Vasant Amladi XI: 248 in 64 overs lost to Datta Hindlekar XI 254-6 in 68 overs : (Nitin Ghadge 43, Milind Tamhane 95, Anil Kesarkar 23 not out, Darshan Shivalkar not out18).

Best bowler:

Gaurang Chavan; Man of the series: Darshan Shivalkar.
