SHILLONG, MARCH 5: A police constable who was playing a cricket match was shot dead during the lunch break in front a large number of spectators here, police said today.Suspected Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) activists gunned down Lionel Phawa of Mawlai police station, at Mawlai Madan Heh playground yesterday.
Police said a vehicle entered the field during the lunch break and four youths carrying AK 47 rifles and 9 mm pistols sprayed bullets killing Phawa on the spot. The body bore eight bullet marks.
No arrests have been made so far. A search is on for the suspects, police said.
