Chandigarh, March 5: The Panjab University Board of Finance, at its meeting on March 10, will decide on the issue of scrapping the IAS Coaching Centre and the Industry-Institute Partnership Cell and work out ways to raise financial resources. At the meeting held on March 3, it was decided that another meeting would be held to consider the items on the agenda that could not be taken up, sources said.
Members had pointed out that the two university centres were adding to the fiscal burden on the university without raising funds, sources said.
The Punjab government, meanwhile, a member pointed out, has agreed to grant the money required for giving revised pay-scales to university employees over and above the budgetary grant of 1998-99.
The government has also directed the university that no non-teaching posts be filled and non-planned expenditure be done away with. It has also been decided not to create any new departments, sources add. The board members have also agreed in principle to promote 56 laboratory staff members who have completed between 26 and 30 years of service.
Meanwhile, the issue of grants amounting to about Rs 10 crore, cleared by the UT and Punjab governments but not disbursed yet, will also be discussed.
