CHANDIGARH, March 5: Prosecution witness Raghbir Singh, former sarpanch of village Jhingran, today turned hostile while deposing before the court of UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi in the the Beant Singh assassination case.The witness identified accused Nasib Singh in the court and stated that he knew Nasib since childhood. He said that on September 18, 1995 he was summoned to the house of Nasib Singh and was told that RDX had been recovered from there. The witness stated that Nasib Singh did not give disclosure statement to the CBI in his presence. He added that subsequently, his signature was obtained on the alleged disclosure statement.
He also stated that Nasib Singh did not get the RDX recovered in his presence. At this point, the public prosecutor requested to cross examine the witness, who stated that he had seen the alleged disclosure statement of Nasib Singh and it had his signature. He added that he had seen the alleged memo of recovery of RDX at the instance of Nasib Singh and the same also had his signature. The witness added that RDX, which was in a "katta" was weighed in his presence and was found to be 13.7 gm. Later, it was sealed. A parcel containing RDX was today produced and the same was sealed. When opened, the "katta", which allegedly contained RDX, was found there.
