China remains target of Indian anti-dumping duty

NEW DELHI, MAR 7: Goods exported from China are the main target of anti-dumping duties imposed by India with final and provisional duties levied on as many as 15 cases in the last five years, official data show.

This is closely followed by the economic crisis-ridden East Asian countries of Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia against whom both definitive and final duties have been imposed in a total of eleven cases. Japan (6), USA (4), Russia (3), Kazakhstan (2), Brazil (2), Germany (1), Mexico (1), Taiwan (1), Portugal (1) and Denmark (1) are among the 24 countries against whom final and provisional anti-dumping duties have been imposed so far.

Further, in two cases relating to hard ferrite ringmagnetics and low carbon ferro chrome, investigations for provisional duties are on against China. So far, final duties have been levied in the case of 28 items and provision duties have been imposed in the case of six items. Besides, six cases are under investigation for provisional duties and four cases areunder review.

Anti-dumping duty on goods exported from east Asia have been imposed only on six items since the meltdown started in mid-1997. Out of this, final duties have been imposed in the case of acrylonitrile butadine rubber, acrylic fibre, PTA and polystyrene.

Provisional duties have been imposed in the case of industrial sewing needles and styrene butyl rubber. The following are some of the 12 Chinese items on which final anti-dumping duties have been imposed: potassium permanganate, isobutyl benzene.
