MUMBAI, MAR 7: Starting today, public can call the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for demolition of unauthorised structures even on Sundays and other state holidays. In its continuing drive against unauthorised constructions in Mumbai, the BMC has now made a provision for a central demolition squad that will work on holidays in the western and eastern suburbs. The provision for this squad was recently made during monthly meetings of the municipal commissioner with ward officers, heads of various departments and deputy municipal commissioners.
One sub-engineer, one building mukadam and 10 labourers are to be posted on duty during holidays in all the wards on a rotational basis. The western suburban squad will sit at K-west ward office in Andheri, and the eastern suburban squad will sit at N-ward office, Ghatkopar, between 11 am to 7 pm to listen to public grievances.
``On receiving a complaint, the concerned sub-engineer will confirm whether a particular structure is unauthorised and only thentake the necessary action of demolition,'' informed an official.
Public can contact the western suburban squad at 9821152084 and 9821152085. For complaints in the eastern suburbs, contact 9821152088, only on holidays.
Apart from Sundays, some of the other holidays during which the squads would be working this month are March 18 (Gudi Padwa), March 25 (Ramnavmi) and March 29 (Bakri-Id).
