ROHTAK, MARCH 7: Dewatering of flooded fields of Polly village on Rohtak Jind road, nearly 25-kilometers from here due to a breach in Bhiwani sub-branch canal will start tomorrow, according to P. S. Dahiya chief engineer of irrigation branch.The residents of Polly village blocked traffic on Rohtak-Jind highway demanding immediate relief to the farmers whose crops have been inundated due to a breach in the canal. They lifted the blockade when they were informed that a survey of the area submerged under water has been ordered.
Though over 36 hours passed the authorities failed to plug the breach. Dahiya said six dumper trucks, six tractor trolleys, 150 workers excluding mechanical workers, teams from Rohtak and Jind have been deployed to plug the breach. One J.V.C . filling machine has been deployed for filling work.
He said two electric transformers installed near the pump house were embeded. The employees of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam were busy installing three electric transformers . The cable was being laid.According to sources nearly 100 acres near the canal is a low lying area. Executive engineer S.S. Takshak said that the capacity of the canal was 856 cusecs. But when the breach took place, the flow of water was about 740 cusecs.
It may be recalled that a breach in Bhiwani sub branch canal yesterday had submerged nearly 700 acres of land. A bandh around the village had come to their rescue as it stopped the water from entering the inhabitated area. Eom time 1630 hrs.
