SMC function to mark Women's day
The Cultural Department of the Surat Municipal Corporation will hold a cultural programme at the Gandhi Smruti Bhavan at 2 pm on Monday to mark the International Women's Day. The women's wings of all social, educational, cultural and religious organisations have been invited. Mayor Savita Sharda will preside over the function, while Deputy mayor Snehlata Chauhan, standing committee chairman Ajay Choksi and leader of house in SMC Natu Soma Patel will be present.

Photo exhibition
Surat-based photographer Mohanbhai Bherwani's photo exhibition Expression was inaugurated on Thursday by noted artist Vasudev Smart at Rotary Club Art Gallery, Nanpura. The photographs display industrial interior, micro, macro and aerial photography. The exhibition is open till March 8.

Camp on Mar 11
District Collector Sangeeta Singh will inaugurate a camp at Andhjan Shala, Ghod Dod Road, at 11 am on Thursday. The camp has been organised to inform the handicapped persons of a loan facility from National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation. Handicapped persons wanting to start STD/PCO, install photo copier, or start a provision stores or those who are technically qualified should attend the camp, she said. The prospective beneficiaries should have annual income up to Rs 60,000, more than 40 per cent disability, and are aged between 18 and 55.

Quota demand
The Jamnagar Region Passengers' Association has demanded more quota in long distance trains, like the Okha-Puri Express, Rajkot-Cochin Express and Navjivan Express. In a letter to Union Railway Minister Nitish Kumar, association member Sabir Godil said the residents of Saurashtra-Kutch region faced a lot of problems because of inadequate quota.
