SURAT, MARCH 7: The Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID), which is currently preparing a data bank on rural artisans to give a touch of ``Indianness'' to interior designing, will host the international conference of International Federation of Interior Designers in 2003.This was announced by IIID president Rajesh Patel here on Saturday, while inaugurating the Surat Chapter of IIID.
Stating that with increasing foreign investment in the country, there was great demand for Indian interior designers, he said that since interior designing was a fast growing and upcoming field, all practicising interior designers should keep abreast of the latest developments in the field. ``And IIID provides a platform to professionals for interaction.''
The IIID, which has centres in seven cities, also plans to open centres in Delhi, Chennai and Calcutta.
Established in 1972, the IIID has its membership open to professional interior designers, manufacturers and dealers of products related to the interior design industry. It organises an annual national convention, seminars and exhibitions of works by interior designers and also invites foreign designers.
