Anand recovers by toppling Topalov

CHENNAI, MARCH 7: Garri Kasparov maintained his two point lead after splitting a point with Vladimir Kramnik after 35 moves from a Grunfeld Defence in the 11th round of the City Of Linares chess tournament on Saturday. Kasparov looks well set for another outstanding tournament victory with 8.5 points. Kramnik is occupying the second spot with 6.5 points.Viswanathan Anand recovered from his loss yesterday to register a 43-move victory over Vaselin Topalov in a knight and pawn ending with the black pieces adopting the Caro-Kann Defence. With this victory Anand moves to 6 points.

In the other matches today, Peter Leko drew with Peter Svidler while Ivanchuk settled for half point with Michael Adams.

Results (11th round): Kramnik (6.5) drew Kasparov (8.5), Topalov (4.5) lost to Anand (6), Leko (5) drew Svidler (4.5), Adams (5) drew Ivanchuk (4).
