Chandigarh overall champs

CHANDIGARH, March 7: Hosts Chandigarh collected 328 points to win the overall championship in the first North Zone Veterans athletic meet, which concluded here at the Panjab University ground.

Haryana and Punjab with 293 and 255 points were second and third, respectively, in the meet.

Dilbag Singh of Chandigarh, gave an excellent performance to win the gold in in the men's 1500 metres, in the plus 40 category. Dilbag had also won first position in the two-lap race on the opening day of the meet.

Haryana's walkers made a clean sweep in the men's and women's sections in the plus 45 and plus 40 categories, respectively, in the 20 km walk.

Haryana men's team also won gold in the 4 X 100 metres relay.

Title for Sangeeta
Sangeeta was adjudged the best athlete in the Dev Samaj College of Education-36, annual athletic meet held at college premises yesterday. Seema was declared the best sportswomen.

Results: 50m: 1 Sangeeta, 2 Sukhminder and Ritu, 3 Vandana. 100m: 1 Sangeeta, 2 Anu Gupta, 3 Manisha. Shot put: 1 Manisha, 2 Santosh, 3 Navneet. Javelin throw: 1 Seema, 2 Shallu, 3 Navneet. 200m: 1 Sangeeta, 2 Manisha, 3 Sanjeevan. 400m: 1 Sangeeta, 2 Manisha, 3 Anu. Discus throw: Navneet, 2 Santosh, 3 Seema. Long jump: 1 Sangeeta, 2 Simmi, 3 Manisha.

Basketball camp
The Chandigarh Basketball Association has selected probables in the men's and women's section for the forthcoming National meet to be held at Jaipur from March 15.

The selected players in the men's section should report at 4 p.m, to Amarjit Singh at Sector 46 Sports Complex while women's camp will be held at Sector 7 Sports Complex.
