MUMBAI, MARCH 10: The 37-day-long strike by the Class IV employees of Nanavati Hospital was called off today following a settlement between the hospital management and the employees' union.Around 1000 employees of the hospital had struck work opposing the hospital's recruitment policy. The union demanded cancellation of recruitment in managerial cadres and instead give jobs to the family members and relatives of the workers. The hospital management however refused to accept the demand.
While the workers went on strike since February 2, the hospital began discharging the patients from February 5 and transferred others to nearby hospitals.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the issue was settled yesterday. While the union has agreed not to interfere in the hospital's recruitment policy, the hospital has set up a grievance redressal cell to look into the problems of the workers, added the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that the hospital has begun functioning with the patients being admitted fromtoday with employees reporting back on work at all the wards and departments.
