NEW DELHI: Parliament today approved President's Rule in Goa with the Rajya Sabha adopting a government resolution by voice vote. The Lok Sabha had earlier passed a similar resolution.

Narayanan surgery

CHENNAI: President K R Narayanan arrived in Chennai today by a special IAF aircraft from New Delhi to undergo eye treatment. After arriving in Chennai, the President drove straight to Sankara Netralaya for a check-up. He is scheduled for an eye operation on Thursday.

AGARTALA: At least eight militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were killed in one of the biggest encounters between the militants and Army at Kalabari near Khedacherra in north district, about 200 km fromhere.

LTTE blasts

COLOMBO: Suspected LTTE guerrillas exploded a series of bombs here last night killing one person and injuring 14 others and later blew up an army vehicle with a land mine in the recently captured area in northern Vanni in which two army personnel were killed.
