Flavour Of The Day

Former prime minister Chandra Shekhar is in the habit of striking a conciliatory note whenever controversies arise in Lok Sabha, but on Wednesday there were no takers for his suggestion. The Opposition was demanding a debate on the charges levelled by former consultant to the Finance Ministry Mohan Guruswamy against Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha when Shekhar felt that discussions on corruption don't yield any results. He suggested that instead of debating the issue in the House, a committee of senior members could be constituted to probe into the charges. Unfortunately for him, the idea was not received well. While the Congress spurned it, his one-time shishya former prime minister H D Deve Gowda too chose to differ. A bag wondered if his suggestion had something to do with his association with another long-time shishya Yashwant Sinha who has been put in the dock by Guruswamy.

Quip Of The Day

When Mohan Singh (Samajwadi Party) remarked that Prime Minister Atal BehariVajpayee's karmbhoomi was Madhya Pradesh, Leader of the Opposition Sharad Pawar countered: "Arre bhai, unka karmbhoomi Nagpur hai." Nagpur, as we all know, is the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh!

Denial Of The Day

"There is no difference between the Prime Minister and Home Minister. Don't take advantage of this. It is absolutely baseless," Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on Opposition members' allegations in the Rajya Sabha.

Advice Of The Day

Prime Minister, known for his penchant for discipline and restraint as a Parliamentarian gave a piece of his mind to the members on Wednesday in the Rajya Sabha. He wondered why some members made noises during the President's address in the Parliament. "Members who did not agree with his views could write to him separately," he said and advised members to observe Parliamentary courtesies and decorum.
