Workshop to start rebuilding

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, MARCH 10: The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation's (GSRTC) Naroda workshop staff are back with a bang after seven years to build a semi-luxury intercity bus to ply between Ahmedabad and Vadodara.

This workshop had earlier built the bus bodies on the chassis coming from outside. However, the body building work had been entrusted to private parties based at Bharuch and Ankleshwar seven years ago.

The GSRTC official said, ``After the corporation had handed over this job to the private parties the workshop staff had nothing much to do.'' He added that contractors built bodies of not only the luxury but also the semi-luxury and ordinary buses.

He added that the decision to build bus bodies at Naroda was taken following complaints that the bodies built by these private parties did not long last and the cost was also very high.

``When our employees were making these buses, the cost incurred was less and they could be tested and ordered for repair if officials found some defect,'' he added.

He added that employees could also be taken to task if the workshop detected that the quality of job was not up to the mark.

``A semi-luxury intercity bus for plying between Ahmedabad to Vadodara is also being made at this workshop on an experimental basis at this workshop,'' he said.

He added that once this was found successful then buses plying in the city and in other parts of the state would also be made here for the convenience of the corporation.
